Banks and Currency

The official currency in Jerusalem is the New Israeli Shekel (NIS). The Shekel is divided into half Shekel. Paper currency comes in 20, 50, 100 and 200 NIS. Metal currency comes in 0.5, 1, 2, 5 and 10 NIS. Currencies of foreign countries can be converted into Israeli Shekel at exchange offices and banks in accordance with the daily exchange rate. Currencies such as U.S. Dollar and Euro are accepted by large shops, hotels and restaurants.

If you're visiting Jerusalem from abroad, don't forget that the dialing code is +972 (which replace the 0) Jerusalem has 02 as code, if you call from outside you should not dial the 0. If you want to access the internet, be aware that your network will charge you to access your data while you are in Jerusalem.

Weekend in Jerusalem for Muslims is Friday. Most places are closed on Fridays, but the shops in the old city are open. Some of the Christians may choose Sunday as their main weekly holiday, while Jewish people do not work on Friday and Saturday.
