In the framework of Al Kamandjati Festival, we are pleased to present you the performance of kathak dance by Anuj Mishra followed by the one of Aitana de los reyes y su gente.
The rhythmic virtuosity and the gesture, kind of body’s and soul’s whirlwind, make of Kathak an expression almost celestial.
Anuj Mishra, has become in a few years - beside his father Arjun- a prodigy of Kathak dance. Few dancers combine beauty of the body, technical feat and mimetic depiction of the feelings. Astonishingly graceful, Anuj Mishra realizes a difficult synthesis between a dazzling pure dance technique and an innate sensitivity that allows him to express a whole range of emotions (abhinaya).
According to the traditions of flamenco, young people are not considered to have the emotional maturity to adequately convey the duende (soul) of the genre. Aitana decided to follow another path and to build her own dancing career as soon as possible.
Proud gypsy of artistic lineage, Aitana is daughter of a guitarist father and a singer mother. Descendant of Viejo Agujetas and Familia Amaya, her dance takes root in Santa Maria's Puerto where, in the middle of the weddings and other gypsy festivities, was born her vocation. She gets, for the first time, on stage at four years old, before traveling the whole world, passing primarily by Jerez de la Frontera and the Chiqui de Jerez's dancing school. An alloy of strength and sweetness characterizes its choreographies which she imagines herself since her earliest childhood though providing to it an important part of improvisation.
